About Us

ACE Cycle started from helping family and neighbours with their bikes and just grew from there.

With years of hands-on experience, Dave started ACE Cycle to give people in Tavistock a simple, local option for tune-ups and repairs—without the drive into the city or the long wait times at bike shops.

Operating out of a home-based garage, everything is done with attention to detail, quick turnaround, and honest service.

A big focus of the work is proper cleaning and care. A lot of bikes don’t actually need major repairs—just a good clean, lubrication, and adjustment. That alone can make a huge difference in how a bike rides, shifts, and feels.

If your bike isn’t shifting right, brakes aren’t working as they should, or it just feels off, it can usually be brought back with the right service.

How My Service Works

Most bike issues aren’t major mechanical failures—they come from dirt, buildup, and lack of lubrication. If not done correctly, cleaning of bicycle parts can lead to worn out bearings and early degradation of components.

At ACE Cycle, I focus on what actually makes a difference:

A minor tune up is for bikes that are mostly working well, but need some yearly maintenance. Minor shifting or braking issues, and preventative maintenance are addressed here. A minor tune up includes:

• Light wipe down & clean

• Chain Lubrication

• Gear/shifting adjustment

• Tire pressure + Safety Check

Clean & Check Service — $55

Our most popular service.

This package is designed to keep your bike running smoothly and extend the life of your components through proper cleaning, lubrication, and inspection.

A clean drivetrain and properly lubricated components reduce wear, improve performance, and help prevent costly repairs down the road.

This service also allows us to identify any issues early and recommend further work only if needed.

Cleaning & Lubrication

• Full bike wash (soap & water, frame-safe cleaning)

• Wheel surface clean

• Light drivetrain clean (on-bike with using bike specifications degreaser
  and a dedicated and a dedicated chain cleaning system to avoid damage
  to critical components like bearings and seals)

• Chain lubrication

• External cable lubrication (no disassembly)

Inspection & Safety Check

• Frame and fork inspection

• Wheels, rims, and spokes

• Tire condition and pressure set

• Drivetrain wear (chain, cassette, chainrings)

• Brake system (pads, rotors, function)

• Cables and housing condition

• Bolt check (critical fasteners)

Ride Feel Improvements

• Minor brake and shifting tweaks (quick adjustments only)

Tune-Up Service — $110

For bikes that need proper adjustment and performance restoration.

This service builds on the Clean & Check by addressing braking and shifting performance through full mechanical adjustments and deeper cleaning.

Everything in Clean & Check, PLUS:

Adjustments

• Full brake adjustment (alignment, function, pad contact)

• Full gear adjustment (front & rear derailleur indexing)

• Cable tension set and limit screws adjusted

Service Work

• Wheels removed for cleaning and inspection

• Deeper drivetrain clean (on bike using bike specifications degreaser
  and a dedicated and a dedicated chain cleaning system to avoid damage
  to critical components like bearings and seals)

• Derailleurs cleaned and lubricated

• Pivot points and key moving parts lubricated

Final Check

• Full systems check after adjustments

• Test ride (when applicable)

Does not include hydraulic brake bleeding or cable/housing replacement
Wheel truing not included (can be added separately when available)

Junior Tune (20" & Under) — $30

Simple and effective service for kids' bikes.

• Full systems check after adjustments

Bike Assembly Service — $70

Perfect for new bikes purchased online or in-box

We properly assemble and safety-check your bike so it is ready to ride with confidence (E-bikes not currently offered at this time)

• Handlebar installation & alignment

• Front wheel installation

• Pedal installation

• Seat and seat post setup

• Brake setup and safety check

• Gear check and basic adjustment

• Tire inflation to proper pressure

• Full bolt check and tourqe verification

• Disc & Rim brake pad installation - $15-20 (pads not included) (hydraulic brakes may be extra if pistons are seized)

• Cable & housing installation: $20-40 per line (new cable and housing not included)

• Flat tire repair: $15 (tube not included

• Component installation (derailleur, shifter, cassette, grips, etc.): $25-40 (parts not included)

• Accessory installation (bell, water bottle holder, etc): quoted as needed

⚠️ Service Limitations

To ensure quality and reliability, come specialized services are not offered at this time. The following services are not available:

• Suspension service or rebuilds (front forks or rear shocks)

• Dropper post service or rebuilds

• E-Bike service

• Electronic shifting systems (e.g. Di2, AXS) including diagnostics or setup

• Firmware updates or electronic component troubleshooting

How it Works - Frequently Asked Questions

1. Reach out

Send me a message or call and tell me what is going on with your bike. I will help you find the right package for you, no pressure.

2. Drop off and arrange a time

Well set up a time that works for you. Work is done out of my garage in Tavistock

3. Triage Assessment

I will take a quick look at the bike and confirm what's going on before starting any extra work

4. Service & Tune-Up

Your bike gets serviced & thoroughly inspected. If additional work is found I will reach out again to confirm before going ahead. Parts may need to be ordered at this time

5. Final inspection & Ride Ready

One final check to ensure your bike is ready to go and nothing was missed. Final wipe down to ensure no grease or oil marks left on frame.

6. Pick up

I will contact you through your preferred method and let you know when your bike is ready. Typically a 2-3 day wait time, seasonally dependent.
